In American Open tournaments, you have a lot to think about in the last round. If you are in the leading group, it is so tempting to draw and guarantee a share of first prize, avoiding the heavy stress of a last-round game in the process. On the other hand, big ties can greatly dilute that prize. In the recently completed 2013 National Open in Las Vegas, Mexican grandmaster Manuel Leon Hoyos, and young American star Ray Robson commendably duked it out in the last round, each hoping to take home the pot of gold.
