Viktor Bologan is known for a somewhat unorthodox repertoire. On many occasions he has defended the Benko Gambit or Black Knight's Tango. But in the Karpov Poikovsky tournament he debated Ukrainian grandmaster Pavel Eljanov on classic territory in the Nimzo Indian. The game showcased important strategy for both sides, with the result showing that we should be careful not to judge too much from the result of a favorite game from history.
