Gata Kamsky missed a few golden opportunities to win in Thursday’s Game 7, but his loss meant the end of any World Championship aspirations in the current cycle.
Time trouble was Kamsky’s biggest problem, but as any amateur player knows, time trouble itself generally has a psychological root. In Sofia, Kamsky reports that he did not trust himself during several key moments, notably in the critical Game 7, when he saw moves that proved to be winning, but lacked the confidence to play them, opting instead for what seemed to be safer options.
In an interview before Friday’s closing ceremony, Kamsky offered a match post-mortem, and finally granted a small window inside his team’s efforts, and the months leading up to the challenge.
